If it was up toAlec Baldwin, he would be retired right now.
The Oscar-nominated actor says that his outlook and desires have changed since the 2021 tragedy on the set of Baldwin's filmRustthatkilled cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
"That was unspeakably difficult to deal with," Baldwin said onThe Hollywood Reporter’sAwards Chatterpodcast. "Because of the situation, I wound up staying home a lot. I was home with my kids for three-and-a-half years — I hardly worked at all — and that's just changing now. I'm going to go off and do a bunch of things. But I was home and I got used to it, and I don't want to leave my house anymore. I don't want to work anymore. I want to retire and stay home with my kids."
Hutchins death came as a result of Baldwin discharging a prop gun with live rounds. In Jan. 2023,he was chargedwith involuntary manslaughter. Despite thecharges being droppedmonths later, he wascharged againin Jan. 2024, before a judge officiallydismissed the casewith prejudice in July 2024, meaning it can't be refiled again.Rustarmorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and served 13 months in prison.

"They tried to get me, and they didn't get me, and they cheated and broke the law to get me, and it's just been tough," Baldwin declared toTHR.

Baldwin shares seven children with wife Hilaria, and the family provided an inside look at their chaotic life during TLC's 2025 reality seriesThe Baldwins. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have survived all of theRustsituation, so thank you," he shared of Hilaria.
Rustwas eventually completed and released in 2025, while, with the cooperation of Baldwin, director Rory Kennedy recently premiered the documentaryThe Trial of Alec Baldwin.
