Lainey Wilsonwas living life in the fast lane at 15.

On Tuesday, April 21, the country star appeared onSirius XM'sLife with John Mayershow, where she recalled how she was given the option of writing a song or getting a speeding ticket by a judge.

“I got a ticket when I was 15 for going 75 in a 45," Wilson, 33, toldJohn Mayer.

But the "Hang Tight Honey" performer claimed she ultimately lucked out.

“Thank goodness the judge was my next-door neighbor," Wilson recalled. "And he made me write a song about speeding.”

She then proceeded to sing, "Going 75 in a 45, da da da."

Wilson has opened up about her colorful teenage years, where she had a job impersonating Hannah Montana.

In a recent PEOPLE cover story, she reflected on portraying the fictional Disney pop star played byMiley Cyrus— and the full-circle moment of herNetflix documentary,Lainey Wilson: Keepin' Country Cool,coming out around the same time as theHannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.

"It's crazy that we're putting this documentary out, and it shows a little bit of my Hannah Montana journey, and then Miley did her Hannah-versary," said Wilson. "It feels pretty serendipitous."

Wilson also reflected on being able to join Cyrus, also 33, at theHannah Montana 20th Anniversary Specialpremiere in Los Angeles in March.

"Miley knows about my Hannah Montana journey, and I'mveryaware of her Hannah Montana journey," said the "Somewhere Over Laredo" singer. "Ours looked very different. I didn't have the Malibu mansion, but I had a little portable sound system and a lot of birthday parties that I got to go sing at."

Wilson noted that Cyrus "absolutely loves" that she impersonated Hannah.

"I told her impersonating Hannah really showed me, like, 'Okay, if you want this, if you want to do this not as Hannah Montana but as yourself, you're going to have to go get it,'" she said.

Wilson added that she "wasn't really even old enough to be driving, but I was going to Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana trying to play in front of whoever I possibly could."

Cyrus recently shared a new version of"Younger You"— featured in theHannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special—which features Wilson.
